DESCRIPTION:TUES 28 JAN\, 7PM\nTE AO MĀRAMA SOUTH ATRIUM\nFREE WITH MUSEUM ENTRY \nSince the 1860s\, Dalmatian families from the Adriatic coast of Croatia have been coming to New Zealand in search of a better life. By 1940\, their thriving community in central Auckland\, with over 700 residents\, became a bustling cultural hub for not only the Dalmatians but also for those in South and West Auckland\, and even Northland. On Victoria\, Wellesley\, Nelson\, Hobson\, and Queen streets\, Dalmatian-run businesses like fish shops\, cafes\, and general stores created a vibrant local atmosphere\, while two cultural clubs on Hobson Street became gathering spots for music\, dance\, games\, and community bonding.
