His grandfather came to New Zealand\nat the age of fifteen\, speaking no English. He dug for\nkauri gum in the North\, drained swamps and eventually\nran a small business in Taumarunui.\nSimon’s Slavic blood also runs through his mother’s side.\nShe’s of Polish heritage and was born in Europe.\nSimon considers himself a new-ish New Zealander.
